Miyetti Allah indicts Gov. Sule over formation of militia group

Bello Bodejo, the president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, who is currently in detention for alleged terrorism, has claimed that Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule was behind the formation of an ethnic militia group known as Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.

Bodejo reportedly made the allegation against Governor Sule to his interrogators, according to Punch. The newspaper also claimed to possess the statement, which it reproduced.

Bodejo, as per the purported statement, claimed the governor instructed him to set up the 2,000-man militia group. After his discussion with Governor Sule, Bodejo said he went on to discuss the issue with his friend, one Captain Ahmed Chiroma (retd.).

“Captain advised that I make it legal; he said he would put a write-up for the governor, which he did.” Getting to present the legal document backing up the proposed militia group, Bodejo said Governor Sule was angry and rejected it.

“He (the governor) said no (and) that he wanted to run the state the way he wanted,” Bodejo alleged. He further claimed that, based on the governor’s instruction, he equally met with the commissioner of police and director of the Department of State Service, DSS, on the matter. Bodejo said Governor Sule released N15million for the procurement of accoutrements for the militia group. However, the secretary to the state government allegedly retained N500,000 for himself.

“He (SSG) gave me N14,500,000, but I learned that the governor gave N15,000,000. I informed Captain Chiroma about the money and he advised that we should quickly register the nomadic vigilante group with the CAC to give us cover. We registered the group and were issued a certificate,” he said.

“On January 12, 2024, the governor called me and I told him I was in Bauchi. He said I should come with the state Commissioner of Police and the Director of the DSS. However, before I could arrive from Bauchi, they had finished the meeting. I met the governor after the Jummat prayer and he said I should meet him in his office.

“He said he had directed that we should parade the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya with the uniform on January 17, 2024. He told me that he met the Commissioner of Police and the DSS Director.”

Upon presenting the uniforms of the militia group to the governor, Bodejo said that he (Gov. Sule) became angry. Bodejo had registered the group as ‘Nomad Vigilante group, comprising persons of the Fulani ethnic stock and which contradicted the governor’s desire.

The governor, instead, wanted the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.  Bodejo added that on the day of the unveiling, both the governor and the SSG were absent.

Bodejo reportedly dialed the governor, whom he said informed him that he was away in Abuja to attend proceeding of his governorship election dispute.

The  office of the National Security Adviser has since arrested Bodejo and he is currently facing terrorism charges.
