Okowa: Ohaneze Ndigbo breaks ranks with Clark, Adebanjo

The Ohaneze digbo seems to have broken ranks with the Chief Edwin Clark-led Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), which only on Friday described as a treachery the nomination of Governor Ifeanyin Okowa as the running mate to PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. The group has one of its members, George Obiozor, the leader of Ohaneze.

The SMBLF, in its statement, says it rejects Okowa’s vice presidential candidacy and it is a treachery against the “political future of the people of Southern Nigeria”.

The group also says Okowa exhibited “a greedy, parochial and unpatriotic action” for accepting the nomination, after the resolve of southern governors that power should return to the region.

However, the Ohaneze –a primordial association championing the cause of the South-Eastern Nigeria –has made a U-turn with its acceptance Okowa’s candidacy. In its congratulatory message to Okowa, Ohaneze national publicity secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, described Okowa as a “prodigy, an astute administrator, sagacious politician, brilliant physician, creative visionary, prudent resource manager, detribalised patriot, purveyor of morals, a quintessential gentleman and a poster personality.”

“The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, led by Prof George Obiozor, is very proud of you. We are optimistic that your candidacy will add enormous electoral value to your political party, the PDP,” the statement said.
