Oluwo’s ex-wife reveals messy details about monarch amid alleged sexual affair with Ooni of Ife
Chanel Chin, former wife of the Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has alleged child abandonment against the monarch in a statement she released. Chin, in her statement, denied Oba Akanbi’s allegation that she had an affair with Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. She also denied Oba Akanbi’s claim that Oba Ogunwusi was the one who linked both of them together before she became his wife. Conversely, Chin said a Lagos monarch instead introduced her to the monarch, and not the Ooni of Ife as her ex-husband alleged.
She said, “I was introduced to Mr Akanbi by a respected Lagos monarch, not by the Ooni of Ife. During my time as Olori Oluwo, I regarded this Lagos monarch as my Royal Father and still do with respect,” she said.
Chanel went further to accuse the monarch of abandoning their son, Prince Oduduwa, for over five years, describing him as a neglectful father.
“Mr Akanbi has been absent from Prince Oduduwa’s life for over five years. He only resurfaced in August this year in Canada, refused to sign passport papers, but dropped $500 – the first support Oduduwa ever received from him since we left the palace,” she revealed.
She urged the public to disregard the monarch’s claims, calling on traditional institutions to caution him.
“This shall be my final statement on the matter. Prince Oduduwa remains my beloved son, and I hold the Yoruba people in deep love and respect.”
Cornet News reports that Oba Akanbi, in a recorded video, accused Ooni of Ife of setting him up with Chin. He also claimed that Oba Ogunwusi rented an apartment for Chin when they separated.
Oba Akanbi said, “He (Ooni) was looking for my downfall, and the next thing, they packaged a woman for me. I don’t know her from Canada, but it was packaged for me. It was a setup.” The monarch also reveals that he is doubtful he is the actual father of the only child between them.
“She had a child, which I don’t even know if it’s mine. I have to confirm that through DNA,” he said. In spite of the allegation, the Ooni of Ife has kept mute. However, some monarchs from the Ooni’s immediate jurisdiction of Ile-Ife, has issued an ultimatum to Oba Akanbi to either rescind his statement or face a legal suit.
