Wike, Bode George, Donald Duke, others abandon Atiku

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike and some other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared they would not be supporting presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku.

The chieftains include former deputy national chairman of the party, Olabode George; former governors Olusegun Mimiko, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Jonah Jang, Donald Duke, and Ayodele Fayose.

Others are former Justice Minister, Mohammed Adoke; Prof Jerry Gana, former Information Minister; South-South Chairman of the PDP, Dan Orbih; and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche.

Reading the communiqué issued by the group, George said they would not be participating in Atiku’s campaign activities until the national chairman Iyorchia Ayu resigns.

The aggrieved party chieftains have continued to demand that Ayu resigns from his position. They hinge their call on the basis that the party’s national chairman and the party’s presidential candidate cannot be from the same northern region. Instead, they are asking that a southerner should be appointed the chairman of the party to ensure fairness and even representation.
