Kidnappers of Kaduna pupils demand ₦1bn as ransom

Criminals who kidnapped over 200 pupils and students from their school in Kuriga, Kaduna State, has reportedly asked to be paid ₦1billion as ransom.

According to Reuters, the kidnappers contacted one Jubril Aminu, who is acting as spokesperson for the families of the victims. The News medium quoted Aminu as saying that the kidnappers also gave March 7 as the deadline for the ransom payment.

Aminu allegedly stated, “They made a total of N1bn ransom demand for all the pupils, students, and staff of the school.

“They gave an ultimatum to pay the ransom within 20 days, effective from the date of the kidnap (March 7). They said they would kill all the students and the staff if the ransom demand is not met.”

Reuters also quoted the councillor representing Kuriga Ward in the Chikun Local Gornment, Idris Ibrahim, as saying that the kidnappers “called from a hidden number but the authorities are working on getting the number.”

He added that the security forces were taking “adequate measures” to secure the release of the students.
