Nigerian leader, Bola Tinubu, and other African heads of state will be meeting on Sunday in Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian capital, to discuss how to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
A presidency statement said that the Energy Summit, holding between January 27 and 28, 2025, and dubbed ‘Mission 300’, is hosted by the Tanzanian Government, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank.
“In Dar es Salaam, African leaders, private sector leaders, development partners, and civil society groups will strategise to accelerate energy access across the continent.
“The Summit will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to address Africa’s energy challenges,” Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s spokesperson said in the statement he signed.
As he said, “discussions will focus on accelerating energy access in underserved regions, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilising private sector investment.”
The highlights of the summit will see the participating countries at a Ministerial Level meeting present their national energy strategies and approaches on how to achieve universal energy access within five years.
Following the meeting, “the Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, outlining a unified roadmap for Africa’s progress towards the Mission 300 objectives.”
On President Tinubu’s entourage will be Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen; and other senior government official. ‘The President will return to Abuja after the summit,’ Onanuga said.
