How we foiled attempted theft at Dangote refinery – Police 

The Police in Lagos said they foiled an attempt by 20 suspected thieves to steal armoured cables at the Dangote refinery, located at Lekki Free Trade Zone.

David Hudeyin, the spokesperson for the police command, said the suspected thieves when confronted with the police team launched into a gun duel.

“One of the hoodlums was hit in the ensuing gunfire and died on the way to the hospital. Investigation has commenced with a view to arresting the fleeing attackers,” he said.

The Cornet learned the suspected thieves came in canoes through the water adjoining the Free Trade Zone.

The under-construction refinery, owned by Africa’s richest manAliko Dangote, is a N7 billion investment.

It is regarded as the largest single-train refinery on African soil;it is expected to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day upon completion.
