Gunmen kidnap four ‘Sisters of Jesus’

Gunmen on Sunday kidnapped four reverend sisters of the Catholic faith while they were  on their way to a thanksgiving service being held for their colleague.

The victims are members of the ‘Sisters of Jesus the Redeemer, a religious group of the Catholic Church. They are Johannes Nwodo, Christabel Echemazu, Liberata Mbamalu and Benita Agu.

The assailants seized the reverend sisters along Okigwe- Umulolo Road, in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

Zita Ihedoro, the secretary-general of the religious group, confirmed the abduction in a press release.

He said, “Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, it is with great pain that we bring to your notice the kidnapping of four of our sisters,” she said.

“We implore for an intense prayer for their quick and safe release,” she added.

The incident is happening nine days  after the abduction and, later release, of a catholic priest and a seminarian along the Okigwe-Umunneochi Road. They are said to have paid a ransom before regaining their freedom.
