FG silent on alleged China terrorism funding in Nigeria
The Nigerian Government has yet to comment on the revelation that China allegedly fuels terrorism in the country. China is one of Nigeriaās major development partners and continues to funnel bi-lateral loans to financing infrastructure projects, including railway construction, in the country.
Responding to the allegation, published by UK-based newspaper, The Times, China denies it bribes terrorists operating in the country to enable it access to minerals.
In a statement, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria called the revelation as “unverified, unclear and unproven information, to which we have to express our strong dissatisfaction and objection.ā
It added, āThe Chinese government, as well as the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, have always encouraged and urged the Chinese companies and nationals in Nigeria to abide by the laws and regulations of Nigeria, and to implement the local rules and guidance on labour, environment, health and safety, etc, and would continue their efforts in this regard,ā the statement added.
āThe Chinese government was and would never be involved in any form of funding terrorism.
āThe allegations contained in the report were totally irresponsible and unethical, and the intention of the report is seriously questioned.
