Pregnant woman, others die in petrol inferno
A pregnant woman was among the victims of a petrol fire that took place at Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday.
TheCornet gathered that an upended petrol-bearing tanker spilled its content along the Benin–Ore-Sagamu Expressway.
Some residents saw it as an opportunity to scoop the spilled petrol, until a mobile phone belonging to one of them sparked a fire that incidentally consumed them.
The pregnant victim had visited the scene to buy some of the spilled fuel but, unfortunately, caught in the inferno.
Funmilayo Odunlami, the spokesperson for the Ondo state police command, said eight people died from the incident.
She said, “Yes, the fuel tanker fell, some people went there to scoop fuel, in the process the tanker exploded. 8 people were confirmed dead as at yesterday evening,” Ibukun said.
However, unconfirmed reports claim the casualties were as many as 15 persons, including three children.
