FG allays fears over 2023 general elections

The Nigerian Government on Tuesday assured that the 2023 general elections would hold as scheduled. Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, gave the assurance while rendering the account of stewardship of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The minister said the scare by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the likeability of a cancellation or postponement of the election is unfounded.

ā€œNothing has happened to change that position. We are aware that INEC is working with security agencies to ensure that the elections are successfully held across the country.

ā€œThe security agencies have also continued to assure Nigerians that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful atmosphere. Therefore, there is no cause for alarm,ā€ he said.

TheCornet reports that the INEC on Monday warned that the insecurity in the country might hinder the conduct of the general election. INEC says the situation cause the polls to be either postponed or cancelled.
