Tafa Balogun, a former inspector-genral of police, died Thursday evening, four days to his 75th birthday.

He died reportedly from an illness he was treating at a hospital in Lekki area of Lagos.

Balogun was IGP between 2002 and 2005, under former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

He resigned after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), headed by Assistant Inspector-General Nuhu Ribadu alleged benefitted from corruption.

EFCC later arraigned Balogun.

Balogun entered into a plea bargain with the anti-graft agency, which saw him going with a six months sentence and a fine of N4 million.
