Ex-Air Chief Sadiq Abubakar rejects Bala Mohammed’s victory

Sadique Abubakar, the All Progressive Congress governorship candidate for Bauchi state, has rejected the victory of incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed. Abubakar, a retired military chief and Nigeria’s chief of Air staff, stated his rejection during a press conference he gave on Monday night.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Governor Mohammed re-elected, saying he polled 525,280 votes to defeat Abubakar who had 432,272 votes.

Faulting the result, Abubakar claimed he was leading in the poll. He cited areas marred by violence and the eventual cancellation of results from the affected areas.

He said, “How else can someone explain the results from Toro, Warji, Zaki, Alkaleri and Bauchi Local Government Areas, where violence led to the cancellation of results among others”.

He urged his supporters to be peaceful while promising to inform them about any action he would take next.
