Emefiele replies PDP, says no distractionÂ

Godwin Emefiele, governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank, has responded to the allegation of political partisanship after his posters emerged in the country’s capital, Abuja.

One of those who accused Emefiele of secretly pursuing a presidential ambition while he sits tight as head of the country’s financial industry is the Peoples Democratic Party.

The PDP asked Emefiele to resign his position and submit himself for a probe into his handling of the nation’s economy and alleged funneling of public funds to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

In his subtle risposte, Emefiele said he would rather concern himself with “building a strong financial system”.

Emefiele however failed to deny he nurses a presidential ambition in his string of tweets on Monday.

In the tweets, titled #NoDistractionsPlease, Emefiele said: “My focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem; building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy.

A rumour has it that some politically powerful persons who have the ears of President Muhammadu Buhari are propping up the CBN governor for the presidential contest.

According to a source, the same persons, infamously described as “the cabal” equally nudged former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the contest. The Cornet gathers that the plot is a game to thwart the presidential bid of a particularly influential aspirant within the ruling party.
