NFF unveils Finidi George as Super Eagles’ coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Monday, unveiled Finidi George as the new head coach of the country’s national football team, the Super Eagles. The unveiling took place at the media centre of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The football body equally unveiled another ex-international Daniel Amokachi, as the assistant coach. Others are Olatunji Baruwa, who is the goalkeeper trainer; and Chima Onyeka, as the team’s fitness trainer, while Benjamin James is named as a backroom staff member.

At the presentation of the coaching team was Nigeria’s sports development minister John Enoh, Ibrahim Gusau, president of the NFF; and Augustine Eguavoen, technical director of NFF.

George’s trajectory to becoming the Super Eagles’ coach had begun with him replacing Portuguese former national coach, Jose Peseiro. The foreign coach had left the team after leading Nigeria to the successful outing at the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in 2023, winning a silver medal.

George had served as Peseiro’s assistant for a period of 20 months. Prior, he was the interim head coach of the team when it played Ghana and Mali in international friendlies in March 2024, both matches ending 2-1, and 2-0 in favour of Nigeria.
