Buhari’s aide derides Peter Obi over sparse donation to flood victims

Peter Obi’s donation of relief materials to flood victims in Anambra state has been greeted with derision from a presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad.

Ahmad, who is President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on digital communication, implied the donation was sparse, in a tweet he published.

“Wow. Four bags of rice, 14 cartons of Indomie noodles, around 50 set of blankets, 24 loaves of bread, a generator … donated to thousands of families affected by floods in Anambra by a former governor of the state and a current presidential candidate,” Ahmad tweeted in apparent derision.

Obi, a presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former governor of Anambra, had lamented the massive destruction the floods have caused to living and livelihoods in Ogbaru and Atani in Anambra East and West Local Government Areas.

He made the donation during his visit to the internally displaced persons camp in Atani. Obi similarly visited Benue and Bayelsa states to assess the flood situation and sympathise with the locals. He had urged his co-presidential candidates to suspend their campaigns, in honour of the victims. He also wants the federal government to declare a flood emergency in the affected areas.
