NUC boss Abubakar Rasheed quits, returns to classroom

Abubakar Rasheed has stopped being the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) after he quit his appointment on Monday. He said it would enable him resume teaching at the Bayero University, Kano.

Chris Maiayaki, the deputy executive secretary (DES) of the commission, confirmed Rasheed’s resignation

He said Rasheed stepped down from his role for “personal reasons” and would hand over properly on June 30.

“Yes, it’s not resignation but stepping down with effect from June 30. (It is) for personal reasons and his desire to return back to BU Kano to teach research and undertake community action consistent with the tripod function of the academia,” he said.

“Please correct that it is not resignation but stepping down.”

Rasheed was appointed as the executive secretary of the NUC by former President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2016.
