IPOB commander who killed Ahmed Gulak arrested – NA

The Nigerian Army has arrested one Nwagwu Chiwendu, a commander of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) accused of killing PDP stalwart Ahmed Gulak in Imo State.

This is according to PRNigeria, a news platform known for its authoritative reporting in military matters.

Mr Chiwendu, PRNigeria said, is IPOB’s main weapon trainer and the second in command to a certain Temple, who is the current leader of the group in Imo State.

He was arrested on Monday at the burial of his father at Mbaise town. The report also said the suspect would lead troops to his camp, located in Obowo, also in the state.

The suspect, Chiwendu reportedly deserted the Nigerian Army in January 2021 to join IPOB’s military wing, known as the Eastern Security Network.

He is said to be experienced in weapons handling based on his military background.

“He confessed to killing Gulak and confirmed that his camp is responsible for kidnapping the 2 expatriates along Owerri-Okigwe Road and the killing of 2 Police Inspectors escorting them.

“They are the ones that also killed our soldiers in the same location and the burning of our Hilux last week. They equally participated in the attack on INEC office in Owerri.

“He is currently with the Police,” said a military source was quoted as saying.
