APC’s Matawalle cannot return as Zamfara gov. – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zamfara state chapter, has said that Bello Matawalle, the All Progressives Congress’ governorship candidate, would not win the rerun prescribed by the Appeal Court.

In his response to the court ruling declaring the governorship election as inconclusive, Buhari Maijega, spokesperson for PDP, said that the party’s candidate, Dauda Lawal, already has 65,000 votes lead over Mattawalle. He reasoned that the was no way the APC would win the entire 100,000 votes left to be contested in the affected polling areas.

“It would be very impossible for the APC to secure all the votes,” Buhari said, citing insecurity and likely voter apathy might mar the rerun.

“Governor Lawal has a good chance of winning the election over former Governor Bello Mattawalle for many reasons,” he added.

Buhari also said that Dauda might file an appeal at the Supreme Court against the judgment.
