APC shifts campaign kickoff, as report alleges dissatisfaction among chieftains

The All Progressives Congress says its presidential campaigns would no longer commence on Wednesday as it was initially scheduled. The party said it is expanding its presidential campaign council to accommodate more party chieftains.

The party’s sudden change to its electioneering timetable precedes a report alleging dissatisfaction and threat by aggrieved chieftains to sabotage the presidential candidate and the party. Their grievance, as claimed by Premium Times, is the result of their exemption or their nominees’ from the composition  of the campaign council.

“Before then, the party’s leadership had contacted the governors through the PGF secretariat to nominate individuals in their respective states to be members of the presidential campaign council …The governors were requested to nominate five persons each.

“The governors were however stunned to see that Mr Tinubu and the party ignored their nominations and replaced them with others from their respective states without consulting them,”, the reportclaimed.

On Tuesday, Governor Simon Lalong, the director-general of the campaign, said the postponement of the campaign is “due to the expansion of the list to accommodate more stakeholders and interests within the APC family.”

He added: “We have decided to adjust the time-table of these activities in order to ensure everyone is on board before activities officially commence.

“Consequently, the activities earlier announced for the 28th of September will no longer hold”.
