Akpabio defeats Yari to emerge senate president
Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected the president of the 10th Nigerian senate. Akpabio defeated his challenger, Senator Abdulaziz Yari.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, which has the majority in the Senate, had handpicked Akpabio. President Bola Tinubu equally backed him to attain the feat on Tuesday morning.
Akpabio, a two term governor of Akwa Ibom state and former minister of Niger Delta, traded off his presidential ambition by endorsing now President Tinubu at the APC primaries last year.
