EFCC releases former HoR speaker Patricia Etteh

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Saturday, says it has released a former speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh on bail.

Etteh is being accused of receiving millions of naira from a contractor in what looks like a kick-back.

The agency said it detained Etteh over “suspicious and shady financial involvement with Phil Jin Projects Limited.”

“She was released on Friday, May 20, 2022 upon fulfilling bail conditions offered her by investigators working on her matter.

“She is to report periodically to assist further investigations, ” the EFCC said.

Etteh was the speaker of the house of representatives between June and October 2007.

She was removed from the position over allegation that she awarded N628 million for the renovation of her official residence and that of her deputy.

She was also accused of purchasing 12 vehicles for principal officers of the house without undergoing due process.
