Adamawa assembly elects arm amputee as speaker

The Adamawa state house of assembly on Tuesday elected Barthiya Wesley (representing Hong constituency) as its speaker. The legislators unanimously chose Wesley, who has amputated arm during the inauguration of the 8th assembly.

Although Wesley was not born as an amputee, a motor crash he experienced had left him with only an arm.

He is a second term lawmaker belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Aside he being the first physically challenged person to be appointed the leader of a legislative assembly in Nigeria, he had in 2019 made record as the youngest person to be elected into the state legislature.

Equally, the legislature elected Buba Mohammed Jijiwa (representing Jada Mbulo) as its deputy speaker.
