8 Edo men lose multi-million naira automobiles, how it happened

For the eight men whose pricey automobiles were seized, the August visit from operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to their home is an experience they wished never occured.

According to EFCC, the eight men were arrested for involving in internet fraud, (known in local parlance as Yahoo Yahoo).

They are Jeffrey Osagbemwonrue, David Ogheneyewuwe Ighere, and Harry Aputu Donald. Others are Desmond Taiwo, Blessing Samson, Oshiobugie Pascal, John Ohien, and Roland Junior Osagie

“They were arrested following actionable intelligence, ” the anti-graft agency said.

Items recovered from the suspects  include mobile phones and Mercedes Benz GLK350 and CLA 250 cars

The EFCC said that “the suspects have made useful statements and will be charge to court soon.”

Similarly, a Federal High Court in Benin, Edo, has sentenced another internet fraudster, identified as Bashiru Oladipo Alakuro.

According to the charge, Alakuro stored on his mobile phone certain documents he intended to use to defraud. The convict reportedly committed the crime last June. The prosecution said Alakuro’s offence contravened section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 8 read together with section 1(3) of the same Act”.

Alakuro pleaded guilty to the charge upon his arraignment before Justice M. Itsueli of the Edo State high court.

Justice Itsueli convicted and sentenced Alakuro to one year imprisonment or an option of a fine of One Hundred Thousand Naira
