Armed gang kills policeman, set Benue community on fire
An armed gang has killed a police officer and set a station ablaze during an attack on Tse Harga community, in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attackers are believed to be loyalists of slain gang leader, Terwase Akwaza, popularly known as ‘Gana’.
The suspected criminals reportedly stormed the rural community at about 4:00 am while shooting sporadically.
They were also said to have set fire to some houses.
Alfred Atera, the chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
“The armed bandits targetted the youth who formed themselves into a vigilante group”, Atera reportedly stated.
“They stormed the area (Tse Harga), burn the police station, police pick-up van and killed a policeman there.
“They also burnt several houses which I cannot ascertain now. But as for the locals, nobody was killed,” he explained.
He added that security agencies moved swiftly to the beleaguered community and chased the armed gang away. The council chairman said normalcy had returned to the area.
