2023 election will hold – Nigerian military vows

General Lucky Irabor, the chief of defence staff, has assured that the military would do everything by its powers to see that the 2023 election holds.

Irabor stated this at a news conference he held on Tuesday.

The continued insecurity, caused majorly by insurgency and terrorism, has heightened the fear that the general election might not hold.

The defence chief sad the military would keep its covenant of protecting Nigeria.

He sought support from the media on tackling the security challenges.

TheCornet had reported that Irabor claimed security agencies have arrested the gunmen who killed about 40 church congregants in Owo, Ondo state recently.

Unknown gunmen invaded the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, killing scores of worshippers.

Shortly after, the federal government claimed terrorists belonging to ISWAP were behind the attack. But, Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu said the claim was false.

Recently, the state-funded security outfit Amotekun claimed few of the assailants were among criminals arrested for various offences in the state.
