2 women among suspects held over police officer’s murder

Two women are among 10 suspects arrested over the murder of a police constable, Babagana Mala, in Borno state.

In its statement, the Borno state police command, named the two females as Hauwa Usman, 20; Aisha Musa. Their male accomplices, the police said, are Usman Audu, 20; 19; Abba Bala, 20; Sunday Garba, 21; David Paul, 35; Mohammed Abubakar, 19; Jude Eze, 37; Amaechi Abdulsalam Afochibe, 37; and Nduibuse Nnaji, 34.

The command said that the late police constable was a Ā member of its special ā€˜Police Crack Unitā€™ posted to Malari, the Konduga Local Government Area of the state.

Mohammed Yusufu, the police commissioner for the state, reported the suspects committed the murder at an area along the military Artillery post, in Maiduguri, at about 4.27pm on Sunday.

Yusufu said, ā€œThe police constable, who came home (Maiduguri) on permission, was stabbed with a sharp object on his back by his assailants.ā€

ā€œWe understand there was an altercation between the hoodlums and the constable before he was stabbed.

ā€œOn receipt of a distress call from the area, the police patrol team responded and took the victim to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital where he was later certified dead.ā€
