VIDEO: Top Kogi politician fingered in hospital invasion, shootings

There was violence at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Kogi State, on Tuesday following the invasion of the facility by some persons suspected to be politicians.

A medical doctor working at the facility tweeted on his X handle about the incident and shared a video of some men wrestling with the security guard for his gun.

The doctor, using the handle Dr. Currency @k_f2d, identified one of the invaders as the majority leader of the Kogi State house of assembly. TheCornet however cannot ascertain the claim.

In his tweets, the doctor said the men were enraged by the death of a loved one in the accident and emergency unit in the hospital.

He wrote: “My team was called to the A&E to review a new patient. A group of men in kaftan broke through the gate and started demanding for the doctors on duty. Apparently, they lost a patient. And they came for the doctors. One of them, I learnt, is a political leader.”

The distraught doctor added: “These men started destroying things in the A&E, beating any worker they saw, nurses, doctors, security (sic).

“The CSO came at them with a gun, as they had become really violent. They wrestled the gun from the man, with several shots released during the struggle. The hospital gate was locked. We are currently hiding in different locations in the hospital.

“The man in white kaftan was the one that assaulted us. He’s the majority leader in the Kogi state house of assembly. He was the one that stoned his phones at me, hit me and my colleague, and lead the violence. Here you can see him trying to wrest the gun out of the CSO.”

There has been no official response on the incident both from the state government and the police.
