Obi’s support group unhappy BBC cleared Tinubu

A group, the National Democratic Coalition, has deplored the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Disinformation Unit for absolving President Bola Tinubu of forgery allegation. The group, which bears similar name to the 1990s defunct pro-democracy group, NADECO, famously promoted Peter Obi’s presidential ambition in 2023.

Calling the BBC’s expose an attempt to launder President Tinubu’s image, the group’s executive director Llyod Ukwu said he has “solemn duty to shed light on deceit and manipulation even when it is executed by influential figures.”

Ukwu, who is based in the United States, added, “The latest effort in this image laundering project comes from none other than the BBC’s Disinformation Team.

“It is disheartening to see an organisation that has long been trusted by the public engage in such biased and mischievous reporting.

“On one level, what baffles us is the BBC’s blatant disregard for facts that are already in the public domain,” he said.

The opposition has accused President Tinubu of submitting to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a forged copy of Chicago State University’s diploma.

Peoples Democratic Party’s Abubakar Atiku recently filed a lawsuit in the US, asking the CSU to release the President’s academic records and sample of the diploma.

The CSU affirmed President Tinubu did graduate from the institution in 1979 but the discrepancies in the birth records, however, stirred fresh disputation by opposition candidates. Both Obi and Atiku are awaiting the ruling of the Supreme Court on their appeals seeking to upturn President Tinubu’s victory.
