Top northern politician backs Christian for senate president job

A top northern politician, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has called for balancing in the distribution of strategic political positions among tribes and zones in the country.

Jibrin, a lawmaker-elect from Kano state and member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), said in a Channels Television interview that the next senate president ought to be a Christian from south-east geo-political zone.

The former APC member advised that the selection should be based on the 1999 template, which ensures even distribution of offices based on geopolitical zone and religion.

TheCornet reports that jostling for the senate president post has begun, and among the aspirants are Senator Orji Kalu, Senator Ali Ndume, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator David Umahi.
