  Police ordered to arrest INEC nat’l chairman Mahmud Yakubu Â

Mahmood Yakubu, the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is to be arrested for contempt of court.

Chief Magistrate Folashade Oyekan, the chairman, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Area Council Election Petition Tribunal, gave the order to the Inspector General of Police, or the Commissioner of Police, FCT on Tuesday.

An election petitioner informed the tribunal that Yakubu disobeyed instruction to produce documents critical to prosecution of his case.

The petitioner, through his counsel C. I Okoye Esq, told the tribunal that he served a subpoena on Yakubu on the 22nd of July 2022, but which he wilfully disobeyed.

The tribunal adjourned till July 29th, when the police are expected to bring the INEC chairman before the tribunal chairman.
