Truck with faulty brakes kills one in Lagos

A container truck has killed one person in Lagos. The truck reportedly developed a faulty brake, causing its driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The incident took place at the Gbagada axis of the metropolis on Saturday. Following the occurrence, a mob descended on the driver, beating him mercilessly.

Adebayo Taofiq, public relations officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, said that officials of the agency rescued the driver from the mob. Aadebayo said the officials took the driver to the Gbagada General Hospital for necessary medical attention.

In a statement on the incident, Bakare Oki, acting General Manager, LASTMA, said, “Police from Ilupeju Police Station provided security backup while the rescued driver was immediately rushed to Gbagada General Hospital by officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit on the ground.”

He urged drivers to always check the conditions of their vehicle before driving on the road.
