Ekiti poll: Politicians will be liable for any violence – Kukah

Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, has warned that politicians would be liable for any violence that breaks out during Saturday’s governorship poll in Ekiti state.

The clergyman said this while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

“The actors themselves will have to live with the consequences of the violence they trigger if it is established that particular actors were responsible for a particular outcome.

“We have been on this for a very long time. What do you do? How do you penalise actors who seem to be involved in instigating violence during elections?” Kukah, who is a member of the National Peace Committee, said.

“Only the living can benefit from the processes of democracy. (We want to) ensure that people play the game according to the rules, “ he added.
