FG aims technical colleges reforms with $200m World Bank loan

The Nigerian government is planning to reform both federal and state-owned technical colleges of education with a $200million loan grant from the World Bank. The reform, based on the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project of the government, aims at addressing the challenges facing technical education and skills acquisition in the country

Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, inaugurated the project, saying its  successful implementation would help Nigeria grow its economy. One of the components is rehabilitation and upgrading of federal and state technical colleges, based on public-private partnerships in the areas of governance, management and planning, training and service delivery.

The second component focuses on providing a comprehensive capacity development package to improve and modernise informal apprenticeships in selected informal sector clusters.

The third is the training of technical teachers and improving the quality of instruction.

The last component centers on producing the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework reform. This, as stated, will involve developing curriculum, based on the National Occupational Standard and training and certification of assessors and trainers.
