Supreme Court approves hijab wearing for Lagos state students

The Supreme Court has approved the wearing of hijab for Muslim students in Lagos state public schools.

The court in a ruling delivered by a panel of seven justices, headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, which earlier ruled in favour of hijab-wearing.

The split ruling of five justices to two stemmed from the 2014 judgement by Justice Grace Onyeabo of the Lagos State High Court, which banned the wearing of hijab by students in state public schools.
