Protesters invade National Assembly, pull gate down

Protesters on Wednesday pulled down the gate to the national assembly and are currently on its premises but under the close watch of armed anti-riot policemen.

The protesters are part of the Nigeria Labour Congress, which declared a demonstration holding simultaneously across the country.

Labour is agitated over the removal of petrol subsidy and have given the government a cocktail of their demands. These include palliatives to cushion the economic challenges facing the citizens; increase in workers’ wages; and payment of eight-money salaries owed to university teachers while they were on strike.

President Bola Tinubu, as a response to the public outcry,  has announced a relief package during a national address he made on Monday.
