Protest in Sokoto over arrest of persons linked to Deborah’s murder

A protest took place in Sokoto on Saturday morning over the arrest of two persons linked to the cold-blooded murder of Deborah Samuel, a student of Sokoto College of Education killed for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

The placard-carrying protesters reportedly urged the Sokoto State Government and the police to release the suspects.

The protesters formed a long procession along Maiduguri Road, bearing placards and chanting “Allahu Akbar” (translated in English as ‘God is great’).

The protesters took off from Zabira Mall, marching through Gao-nama area of the state metropolis.

A hybrid of security operatives were seen monitoring the protesters to avert a breakdown of law and order.

Deborah Samuel was lynched and her corpse set ablaze on the school premises on Thursday.

The late Deborah was accused of blaspheming Prophet Muhammed in an alleged voice note dropped on her class’ WhatsApp platform.

President Muhammed Buhari condemned Deborah’s blood-curling murder, stating that no one had the right to take another’s life.
