Police investigate electrocution deaths in Rivers

Rivers state police command has confirmed the electrocution of five persons, who were said to have met their deaths while mounting a billboard at the Obiri-Ikwerre axis of Rumuosi, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State on Monday.

Apart from the dead, another four victims suffered severe burns and are currently battling to survive while under medical examination at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The billboard is said to be owned by a major outdoor advertisement company. It was being lifted by the five victims at the time of the occurrence.

Grace Iringe-Koko, who speaks for the police command, confirmed the incident.

“Yes we are aware. It is very unfortunate. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain what really happened,” she reportedly said.
