Peter Obi harassed, detained in London – Spokesperson
A statement by Diran Onifade, spokesperson to former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, says that the British immigration officers ādetainedā the politician at the Heathrow Airport last Friday.
Onifade claimed the officers equally harassed Obi after they asked him to step aside from a queue.
āHe was questioned for a long time and it was very strange for a man who lived for over a decade in that country,ā Onifade said.
The officers told Obi someone had impersonated him and such had committed āall kinds of weighty crimes and other dubious acts,ā Onifade said in the statement.
The spokesperson expressed the fear that since the culprit āis still at largeā, āObi could be implicated in a series of forbidden acts and even be framed in a manner that could be a huge embarrassment to him, his family,Ā his party, the obidient movement, and Nigeria, where he currently and remains the conscience of the people.ā
Onifade said Obi had suffered āattacksā since he began to pursue his case in court.
āEven the Federal Government who directed him to go to court even despatched the Minister of Information Lai Mohammad to the United States to attempt at de-marketing him and accused him of treason.
āObiās telephone line was also bugged when they were possibly looking for information to portray him badly before a section of the country who had voted for him massively.ā He assured Obiās supporters that āthe Rock (referring to Obi) is not deterred as he is ready to suffer the pain and remain even more determined to pursue whichever path his creator destined for him in Nigeria.ā
