Ondo directs deputy governor to withdraw impeachment lawsuit

The Ondo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, asked Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deputy governor of the state, to withdraw lawsuits he filed to stop his planned removal from office.

Olatunji Oshati, spokesperson for the house of assembly, said the directive was to allow amicable resolution of the dispute.

“The Speaker expressed the desire of the House leadership to further consult with members of the House cutting across party lines, on the political solution as proposed by the APC.

“The House, therefore, hopes that in the same spirit of genuine wish for a political solution, the deputy governor would take immediate steps to withdraw the multiple court cases he filed over the same impeachment.

“This would allow the stakeholders to freely discuss the settlement proposals and prevent actions or comments over a matter that is still sub judice.”

A federal high court gave a restraining order stopping the house of assembly from going ahead with impeachment proceedings. Following the order, chief justice of the state, declined to set up an investigative panel, as the house of assembly had requested.

Aiyeditiwa acted in ailing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s stead while the latter was on an admission in an overseas hospital. Since his return, Akeredolu has rarely been seen in the public. He is said to be convalescing in his Ibadan, Oyo state home, a development the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has frowned upon.
