Buni overrules secretary on composition of APC convention committees

Mai Mala Buni, the national caretaker committee chairman of the APC, has overruled his secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe over the composition of convention committees.

Akpanudoedehe had on Thursday released a list of sub-committees, which omitted governors who recently attempted to remove Buni in it.

The secretary had nullified the earlier list of sub-committees done by Sani Bello, governor of Niger who doubles as acting chairman of the party.

Refuting that Bello’s actions had been undone, Buni in a statement on Thursday, said: “This is to bring to the attention of all stakeholders and members of the party that the purported suspension of some activities initiated and executed by the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee under the Acting Chairman and Niger State Governor Sani, H.E Muhammad Sani Bello is not true”

“ThereforeĀ  all activities that were done in my absence remain valid and binding”, Buni said and urged that the previous statement by Akpanudoedehe be disregarded.

Some governors, among whom were Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Akeredolu, both governors of Kaduna and Ondo respectively, had accused Buni of planning to scuttle the convention.

The governors went ahead to install Sani Bello as acting chairman and claimed President Muhammadu Buhari was in the know of their actions. But, the anti-Buni governors met a brick wall as INEC rejected the notice served on it for the coming APC convention.

INEC stated that it was not notified of a change in the party’s leadership and would only recognize correspondence from either Buni or Akpanudoedehe.

Bouyed by INEC’s stance, the pro-Buni APC members resumed their control of the party. President Buhari in his admonition to feuding APC governors urged that Governor Buni be allowed to see the APC through its convention, which is expected to produce fresh leaders.
