Military discovers 93 bombs in Lagos, searches for more

Authorities at the Ikeja Military Cantonment, in Lagos, have discovered 93 explosives and are still searching for more. Colonel Abdulrazaq Kazeem, who coordinates the Directorate of Explosives Search and Disposal of the Nigeria Army Engineers, said the discovery was the outcome of a special operation, EXERCISE CLEAN SWEEP.

“At 93, we have not yet reached the limits. The moment we reach maximum limits of explosives within our holding area, such ordinances will be moved to the range,” Kazeem stated.

On his part, the Safety Officer, Lt Col Oluseyi Oladapo Bamikole said the military took necessary measures to ensure “the safety of personnel as they have made adequate equipment available including demarcations and trained personnel to identify UXO before recovery from the site.”

The armoury of the Ikeja Cantonment experienced sudden explosion in 2002, leading to huge loss of lives and destruction of properties due to the impact of the explosion.
