Man bags jail for threatening mother-in-law with death

A man, Muyiwa Ojo-Osagie, has been sentenced to two months imprisonment after he threatened to kill his mother-in-law.

Ojo-Osagie, works with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) at the University College Hospital (UHC), Ibadan.

During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Inspector Kola Olaiya, told the court that the convict had, on August 11, 2019, at about 10am, hit Mrs. Gbadebo (81) with an umbrella handle and threatened to kill her.

Ojo-Osagie was reportedly angry that his two daughters from his estranged wife, Oluwayemisi, were in the custody of Mrs. Gbadebo. The issue degenerated into a confrontation between them, the result of was the convict assaulting Mrs. Gbadebo.

In her ruling, the President of the court, Mrs Basirat Gbadamosi, found Ojo-Osagie guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.

She said, “The defendant is sentenced to two months community service on count two of threatening to kill his mother-in-law.

“The convict is therefore ordered to write letter of apology to the complainant, Mrs Sarah Gbadebo.”

But, Ojo-Osagie may not end up in jail as his offence carries an option of a fine. On the wise, magistrate Gbadamosi gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine
