Kano: Discrepancy in CTC ought not to stir dispute – Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal has reacted to the controversy that has dogged the certified copy of its verdict on the Kano governorship dispute.

The appellate court had sacked incumbent Governor Abba Yussuf, directing that Nasir Gawuna should be returned as the duly elected governor.

However, a portion of the CTC was discovered to have dismissed Ganuwa’s appeal and resolved the matter in Yussuf’s favour.

In his clarification, Umar Mohammed Bangari, chief registrar of the Court Of Appeal, attributed the discrepancies to clerical errors.

He said: “What happened in the part of the judgment being complained about is just a mere clerical error that ought not to draw any issue.

“The court is empowered to correct such clerical error and would be done as appropriate.”

The registrar assured that the errors would be rectified once parties in the case file a formal application to that effect. He said the appellate court is empowered to make the correction under Order 23 Rule 4 of the Court of Appeal Handbook.
