Finally FG stops labour’s planned nationwide strike

ÂOrganised labour in the country has suspended the plan to go on a national strike. This came after the government’s offer of a pay rise to federal civil servants among other palliatives.

The labour unions had said they would shut down social services over petrol subsidy removal and the government’s failure to give palliatives to cushion the hardship facing Nigerians.

Mohammed Idris, the minister of information, revealed the other offers by the government to include provisional payment of N35,000 to federal workers; provision of gas-enabled buses for public use; suspension of Value added tax on diesel for six months; payment of N25,000 to 15million households during a three-month period.

The government equally promised the labour leaders it would address the suspension of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and its counterpart, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in Lagos state.
