Update: Emefiele gets N20m bail after making ‘not guilty’ plea

The federal high court sitting in Lagos has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the sum of N20 million. Justice Nicholas Oweibo, who is hearing the case, said the charges preferred against the embattled bank chief are bailable ones.

Earlier, Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on alleged illegal possession of firearms.

Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has told a federal high court sitting in Lagos that he is not guilty of the charge of unlawful possession of firearm.

The Department of State Services arraigned Emefiele today, after 46 days of his being in custody.
