IGP refutes planned police strike, says officers well-motivated

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, has refuted police officers are planning a strike and claimed they are “well-motivated”.

The police chief, in a statement by Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the news of a planned strike as “fake and a mischievous attempt by unscrupulous individuals to bring the Force to disrepute”.

The statement adds that a police strike is “mutinous”, a “disloyalty” and “indiscipline”, and that police officers are ” fully aware” of such.

Adejobi stated that the IGP was working to see that police salaries are increased and tax-free, as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari recently.

“Similarly, the Inspector-General of Police reiterates that police officers under his leadership are well motivated with the ongoing reforms, especially the provision of kits, accoutrements, body armor,” Adejobi stated.

He listed other things being done by the IGP as the “cooperative society’s housing scheme, renovation of training schools, upgrade of police training curriculum, procurement, and deployment of technology to boost ICT-driven policing.”

The statement also assures that police officers are committed to their duties and would continue to ensure public safety.
