How I killed my step-mother with pestle – suspect

Najib Shehu, from Katsina, has reportedly confessed to killing his step-mother with a pestle. Shehu claimed his 60-year-old step-mother had mistakenly hit herself with the pestle which she intended for him.

“My father was in the sitting room when my stepmother entered holding a pestle and started threatening me with it.

“She raised the pestle up to hit my head but I defended it. Then, she wanted to hit my leg but I jumped up, dodged it and it hit my father’s leg as he was coming to intervene.

“Again, my stepmother raised the pestle up and wanted to hit my head with it but I pushed her, and in the process, the pestle hit her head and caused her to fall down and die,” he alleged.

Shehu said his mother had separated from his father, and that he had for long endured a strained relationship with his deceased step-mother.

His claim however contrasted with the police account of the incident.

SP Gambo Isah, the spokesperson for Katsina Police Command, said the suspect’s father stated that his deceased, Asiya had a misunderstanding with the suspect, around 4pm on August 18, 2022, at their residence at the Ambassador Quarters, Katsina.
