Group petitions Tinubu over sleaze in Police Trust Fund

Goldstreet Associates, an Abuja-based human rights group, has petitioned President Bola Tinubu alleging corruption in the running of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).

The petitioners asked President Tinubu to intervene urgently in the reportedly corruption-infested agency.

“We respectfully invite your Excellency’s urgent attention to the colossal abuses of the NPTF, with the view of rescuing it from collapse,” they wrote.

The petitioners explained that corruption has detailed the agency from its role of providing ” an additional window for police funding” and ” to provide the Nigeria Police with modern, state-of-the-art operational equipment, training and welfare. ”

Equally, the petitioners observed the agency was being run like it’s precursor —the defunct Police Equipment Fund.

Other allegations presented by the petitioners are “employment scam”; lack of structure, and ” witch-hunt” of whistleblowers.

They, therefore, asked the President to “request for investigative reports of the EFCC and ICPC” on the agency; to “appoint an independent visitation panel” that would ” interview staff” and look into the anti-corruption reports.
