Governors defeat Malami over controversial $418 million Paris Club refund

The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has won a lawsuit it initiated against the attorney-general and minister of justice Abubakar Malami, seeking to stop the payment of $418 million to a consultant.

The consultant, Panic Alert Security Systems Limited, has continued to lay claim to the said sum of money as the fee for his services. While Malami is deposed to paying the consultant, the governors alleging it is illegal and unworthy.

In a ruling, Justice John Tsoho, of the federal high court in Abuja, set aside a consent judgment in favour of Panic Alert Security Systems Limited against the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

The judge aligned with the submission of the NGF that issue bordered on a simple contract, upon which a court cannot adjudicate based on section 251 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
